FOCUSED SPANISH MEDICAL ASSESSMENTS

This site has been established to provide valuable FREE assessment tools to health care professionals who are charged with treating non-English speaking persons in the acute medical setting. These assessments are intended for all levels of Spanish proficiency, but especially for those with little or no Spanish language skills.

The questions you need to know!

Answers you can understand!

Each assessment was constructed and reviewed by native speakers for clarity, brevity and most importantly simplicity. Wherever possible, the responses implied by the question are in a simple yes / no format. The caregiver is encouraged to even read verbatim from the printed PDF or Palm pilot form, and if necessary have the patient or family member read it.

Listed in the download pages are focused assessments for common complaints that present to the E.D. or clinic such as: Chest Pain, Difficulty Breathing, Altered Mentation, Labor and Delivery and others. Darren Griswold at the Department of Foreign Languages at the University of Nevada, Reno has been gracious enough to proof read the material for accuracy.

Download text • The Adobe PDF form can be easily downloaded or printed from the web for use or even lamination. These documents can even be given directly to the patient or family to read.

Palm format • After obtaining a compatible reader program, the same assessments can be transferred for storage and use via a handheld PDA.

Audio Files • To aid in pronunciation, the assessments can also be heard in MP3 format which is compatible with most mp3 playback software and can be also burned to an audio CD for home or car use.
